Improve Your Spanish through Theatre

Hi, I would like to share with you one of the best ways to immerse yourself in the Spanish language without leaving your current country of residence.  Forget about renewing your passport, no need to see how long you will have until your current visa expires, and you can save your frequent flyer miles because you don’t need to buy a plane ticket.

My recommendation is that you take a trip to your local community theater, and if you are lucky then they will offer performances in Spanish (or your preferred foreign language).

I recently had the privilege of attending a Spanish language play at The Aurora Theatre in Lawrenceville, GA.  The play was called “The Great Mother’s Day” and it was performed entirely in Spanish.  The actresses did a great job and the set designers deserve kudos as well.  I was able to speak Spanish exclusively from the moment I walked into the theatre until the moment the show was over.

Many of the attendees were native speakers and I was able to hear various accents throughout the night.   At this particular performance the actresses spoke in Spanish, however the non-Spanish speaking members in attendance were able to read the supertitles above the stage area that were providing clear simultaneous translations to English.

It is more beneficial to attend a live stage play in Spanish instead of watching your television at home.  You have access to native speakers and experience an immersive experience at the same time.

So, tell me do you have theaters in your neighborhood that offer plays in foreign languages?
